Either way, this is both sad and impressive on his part.
I’d guess likely a bit of both. He doesn’t think he has much worth so from there he tried to puzzle out what this guy would want with him.
And I think I agree with your assessment. At least he’s more confidant to speak his opinions now.
Beware the Quiet Ones. Often, they are the most aware of what’s really going on.
