hardly a ‘bad habit’ unless you take it too far and alienate your fanbase. when you bend over backwards to avoid hurting characters so as to avoid tugging at heartstrings, then you need to look at your writing. but.
OHGOD MY FEELS *keeps reading anyway* <- that's what you want to elicit in the reader
I’m right there with you on that! 😀 A character getting through everything unscathed lacks the proper drama for me, it doesn’t feel like the events had any real effect on their life. Whereas when a character faces hardships, it allows for character growth and if they overcome their hardships, it means that much more in the end.
